I got a talking to a friend the other day about the London Olympics……”I’m definitely going to see the Olympics, when it comes to our city” he said showering my chicken  wasabi pepper sauce with a spurt of saliva!
“How and when are you going to get tickets? I said. “I’m not! I’m going to become a volunteer!”
I never thought of volunteering but so I did a bit of research. Apparently the Olympics is going to require 70,000 volunteers and the applications will open in 2010, so we still have a year or so.
“What are you going you volunteer for” I asked, “general stuff”
Apparently there will be two kinds of Games volunteer – specialist and generalist.
• Specialist volunteers will have specific existing skills or qualifications that are needed for them to complete the role – for example, sport or medical training.

• Generalist volunteers will not need any special skills or qualifications and will receive full training. They might be given roles in areas such as event services, uniform distribution and Village operations

The last Olympics in London were held in 1948 soon after the Second World War. So this time around I feel I’d like to be part of history.
I know alot people are not happy about how much its going to cost us Londoners, but it’s here whether we like it or not, so why not get involved and experience the what could just be an absolutely amazing event whilst hosting thousands of people from throught the globe. Plus you just might get to see some of the events.
