| No CommentIf you haven’t heard of LCD Soundsystem and you’re looking for a new pet sound then get listening and then get a ticket for the shows they are playing in Brixton in April. Despite rumours of a split in the band back in 2008, they are still going strong with festival and tour dates aplenty and a place in the hearts of everyone from the terminally hip to the terminally square. They are one of those bands that everyone seems to like for their easy “dance-punk” style and with elements of disco adding the Saturday night danceability. LCD Soundsystem is the musical project of American producer James Murphy, co-founder of dance- punk label DFA Records. The band are two releases deep in terms of albums, but first brought themselves to the public attention with the single “Losing My Edge”, “an eight-minute, laugh-out-loud funny dissection of cool over a dirty electronic beat”. Of their other well loved releases, “Daft Punk Is Playing at My House” was a big hit, jumping into the UK Top 40 in March 2005 and later featuring on several video game soundtracks like SSX on Tour, Forza Motorsport 2, Burnout Revenge, and FIFA 06. The band have also toured with M.I.A. and received two Grammy nominations in the Electronica category for their self-titled album and in the Dance category for “Daft Punk Is Playing at My House”. So ok, you get it they’re pretty good right.
The band’s second album, Sound of Silver, came out on March 12, 2007 and was pretty much straight away beloved by everyone in the industry including Mixmag (who gave it “Album of the Month”) and Pitchfork who gave it a near perfect 9.2. If you’d like to catch up with these musical legends or learn about their sound you can catch them at Brixton Academy on 23 and 24 April.
