Kings Place, Kings Cross London

| No CommentIt’s highly possible that you will not yet have heard of Kings Place as it is not exactly on the beaten track, nestled as it is behind Kings Cross station in that odd piece of land that is neither yet wasteland nor regenerated. Designed by celebrated architects Dixon-Jones, Kings Place brings together under one roof a creative hub, a dining venue, a conference and events centre, and office complex.
I found out about Kings Place when I booked myself and my boyfriend in for a night of comedy there. We were not enormously impressed with the comedy we saw (some of which was actually quite painful to watch – you know like watching someone slowly have a nervous breakdown on the
stage in front of you?) but we were very impressed by the venue.
Kings Place offers a thoroughly artsy experience from music through to visual arts food and drink and the spoken word night we went to. There’s the London Chamber Music Series with the London Chamber Music Society holding regular Sunday concerts, reawakening a tradition that goes all the way back to 1929 and including artists like Frank Bridge and Samuel-Coleridge-Taylor. Another musical interlude is ‘Out Here’ – a series of events curated by leading promoters and musicians in the worlds of contemporary/experimental music and multimedia performance.
Kings Place has two commercial Galleries – Kings Place Gallery and Pangolin London which cater for both temporary an touring exhibitions and exhibitions of modern and contemporary sculpture.
With respect to spoken word there’s ‘Talking Art’ a new series of art relate talks and lectures generally linked to exhibitions taking place at the venue ad well as various other readings.
Then there’s the bars and the restaurant – Concert Bar, Green & Fortune and Rotunda, all of which serve up a fine selection of consumables. I would in particular highly recommend the rosti at
Rotunda. Kings Place is like an arts goldmine so if you haven’t yet had the chance to get down there here’s your motivation www.kingsplace.com.
